Pirates Lifesaving Club Nipper Programme

The Pirates Nipper program is a long-standing trandition at PIrates Lifesaving Club and the club boasts being one of the first clubs in South Africa to introduce the Nipper program to lifesaving. In fact, Pirates Lifesaving Club is the oldest lifesaving club in the country and has a rich history of South African lifesavers that have risen through the ranks.

Situated on arguably Durban’s finest stretch of beach, Pirates releases its Nippers onto the beach each Sunday morning with the sole purpose for them to have fun and learn valuable life lesson in a program that is second to no other sport.

Split across 4 different age groups, our Nipper program caters for ages 7 through to 14 under the guidance of our experienced coaches.  From here, the Nippers graduate to the older age group as Junior Life Guards.

Regardless of the weather, there will always be activities at nipper training. Whether it is swimming, body boarding, Malibu board or simply fun water-sport games, our nippers are sure to leave the beach eager to return the very next week. Beach activities include running, relays, flags and again the obligatory fun element of some ball sport to test those cognitive skills.

The purpose is to teach children the values of the ocean and to equip them with skills that would keep themselves and others safe.

Best of all – what a wonderful way to spend time with friends while mom and dad get some much needed time out in the sun.

After training, there is nothing better than gathering in the comfort of our clubhouse for well-deserved nourishment and good company.

Our aim at Pirates is to offer a fun filled atmosphere on each and every occasion and to live by our motto:
