Training and Competitions

Director of Competitions:  Shane Misdorp

Training and competitions are at the heart of the club.  This is where our lifeguards have the opportunity to train and compete – and who better to have as your coach than KZN and SA athlete Luke Nisbet!

The club offers training as follows:

Tuesdays Board sessions
Wednesday Ski training
Thursdays Board sessions
Saturdays Parkrun and Ironman training
Sundays A bit of everything, depending on the weather

There are quite a few competitions to attend throughout the year.   KZN has a series stretching over five weekends in which our members can compete.  What’s nice about this format is you come down, see how you fare amongst the other clubs, and get ready for KZN and SA Champs later in the season.

Our members that compete must give 20 hours of their time in voluntary duties as a lifeguard in order to compete at SA Champs.  This is a great way for our members to give back to the local community.

We also have masters that train and compete.  This is for anyone over the age of 30.  So if you are keen for something exciting to do and fun days on the beach, come down and take part.

Below is our proposed competitions calendar for the season.

Note that it is subject to change, so please check back from time to time for updates.

Part of the Training and Competitions portfolio is the ski paddling group led by Dave Harker.

The paddlers meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings for their training sessions.

Boating is a growing sport in lifesaving again!  Thanks to Dave Clements and his crew for pushing this sport, which is now back on the KZN and SA Champs program.

Pirates has been the gold medalist two years running at SA Champs.

The surf boating crew meet most Saturdays, weather dependent, and offer a coaching clinic for anyone that is interested.

In conclusion:  Pirates is a great family to be part of and if you like the sand and sea, there is no better place to be!  So come down and join the Pirates family.

ONCE A PIRATE, ALWAYS A PIRATE!
